4-1 Hannover lose again and Arouna scored another goal

Arouna Koné

Mirko Slomka made three changes to the Hannover 96 side, the fit-again Hanno Balitsch and Sofian Chahed coming back for Leon Andreasen and Leon Balogun respectively, while Altin Lala replaced Jiri Stajner. With these changes, Slomka hoped for a more stable midfield. Dortmund on the other hand were unchanged from the side that lost to FC Bayern last weekend.

The game started quite equally as both sides tried to settle in the game, but BVB had the first chance on 8 minutes; Fromlowitz however reacted quickly to deny Barrios after Durica's error. From that point Dortmund were in the ascendancy, and Zidan also had a good chance which went just wide of the post on 13 minutes.

However, 96 managed to weather the storm and were looking safe at the back, and halfway through the first half Slomka would have been pleased with how his side were disrupting Dortmund's rhythm. The away side even had a good chance on the counter attack on 36 minutes after a quick counter attack, but Kone's shot was blocked by BVB defender Mats Hummels.

But the home side were to grab the lead just before half time; after Fromlowitz had made made a fantastic save from Kuba, Serbian international Subotic rose highest to nod past Fromlowitz on 44 minutes. It was a tough pill to swallow for the Reds, who had had a good first half.

There was no changes for either side at half-time, and 96 were looking as if they could get back int he game at the start of the second half. There was a huge opportunity for the Reds on 57 minutes; Kone playing in Schlaudraff, but quick thinking from Dortmund keeper Weidenfeller was enough to deny him. Unfortunately for Hannover though, BVB were to grab a second goal on 60 minutes; Owomoyela heading in from Mohamed Zidan's free kick, a real kick in the teeth for the Reds.

Dortmund were dominating now, and Mirko Slomka had to act to stem the flow; Jan Schlaudraff and Jiri Stajner making way for Jiri Stajner and Sergio Pinto. However, it didn't stop Nelson Valdez from making it 3-0 from close range on 77 minutes after getting the better of Konstantin Rausch.

Nine minutes before then end, Arouna Kone got a consolation goal for the Reds, but Kevin Großkreutz restored Borussia Dortmund's three-goal lead on 88 minutes to make it 4-1.

96 couldn't complain too much about their defeat; Dortmund created more chances over the 90 minutes, and were in top for the most part of the game. It was a deserved defeat for Hannover 96, who desperately need points at home to Wolfsburg next weekend.
